The short version

Practice data stays on the iPhone. No account, no sync, no server. Two things leave the phone: crash reports and the update check, both described below.

What stays on device

Sessions, practice items, tempos, notes, proficiency ratings, tags, templates, instruments, audio recordings and chart images.

Microphone

Used only while you are recording a take. Audio only — the app does not record video.

Camera

Used only when you photograph a chart. Stills only, stored privately, never written back to your photo library.

Photo library

Read-only, and only the image you pick.

Notifications

Scheduled on the device. Upstroke does not register for push notifications.

Crash reports

Upstroke uses Sentry for crash diagnostics. To be written out in full, including what a report does and does not contain.

App updates

The app asks Expo’s update service whether newer code exists.

What Upstroke does not do

No accounts, no analytics, no ads, no tracking, no in-app purchases, no location, contacts or health data.

Retention and deletion

Delete a recording, an item or a session in the app. Delete the app to remove everything.

Children

Upstroke is not directed at children under 13.

Changes

Material changes get a new effective date.
